NEWydd Catering Showcases Sustainable Welsh Produce at Wales Climate Week

NEWydd Catering, in partnership with Flintshire County Council, proudly took part in this year’s Wales Climate Week, celebrating sustainability with a specially designed Eco Theme Menu. The menu highlighted a range of high-quality Welsh products, including items from Edwards of Conwy, Radnor, Llaeth Y Llan, Henllan Bread, and Mario’s Ice Cream.

“As a catering service, we believe that meaningful change starts with everyday choices,” said Steve Jones – NEWydd Catering MD “Wales Climate Week gave us the perfect opportunity to showcase fantastic local Welsh produce while engaging pupils in the importance of sustainability. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting local suppliers who share that vision.”

The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness while showcasing local suppliers supporting climate change conversations to take place throughout the day and encourage learners and staff to consider climate change when making food and drink decisions, helping to form eco-friendly habits.

Emma McIntyre – Flintshire County Council Healthy Schools and Pre Schools Officer “Building on the School Climate Toolkits launched in 2024, Flintshire County Council used Wales Climate Week to share knowledge and promote action within schools across the themes of Climate Change, Energy, Mobility and Transport, Waste and Recycling, and Biodiversity. Each day of the week, Schools were invited to join a short live stream introducing the day’s theme explaining how it relates to Climate Change, and launch activities for the classroom and home where young people learn first-hand about global warming and the action needed to address it.”

As part of the week’s activities, school pupils across Flintshire were given the opportunity to win a variety of prizes. These included reusable water bottles and free high school lunches, with two lucky primary school pupils each winning a brand-new bike. NEWydd Catering supply 14,000 school meals every day across 78 schools in Flintshire, making initiatives like this a powerful way to positively influence pupils' understanding of local food, sustainability, and healthy choices.

NEWydd Catering would also like to acknowledge the valued support of its partners: Harlech Food Services, Paul Bentley Wholesale, and Arrow County Supplies, whose contributions helped make the event a success.
